On the day after the show, Sunday April 18, 2010, there are a half-dozen home layouts that will be open for touring.

The details and sign up sheets will be available on Saturday April 17, 2010 at the fifth annual Ontario Narrow Gauge Show in Schomberg, Ontario.

The Home Layouts are spread across Southern Ontario, from the Eastern reaches of Peterborough, through the GTA and out to the Niagara Region.

The Layouts will be open from noon to around dinner time.

More information will be forthcoming.

In the meantime, if there is any one else interested in opening their home layouts, please contact me.

Don Hamilton writes the following about his On30 - Lake Lillian Railway & Navigation Co.

Quote
Gents,
I have posted a schematic and some pix of my layout for prospective visitors in the interest of full disclosure. I don't want anyone driving 100 miles and expect to see more.

It is under construction but fully operational, anyone wanting to take their locos off the shelf and run them around for a break-in is welcome.

Don Hamilton

Thanks Don.  Don't be so modest.  I've visited the layout a few years ago and it's great!

Another Home Layout on the Tour is Lex A. Parker's On3 Denver & Rio Grand Western Railroad.  drgwrr.com In St. Catherines, Ontario.

Correction, the Layout is in Beamsville, Ontario.  Not as far west as St. Catherines. [Closer to Hamilton?]

Douglas Nelson describes his layout like this:

Quote
On30 and point to point with a small way station, coal mine, saw mill, granit pit and one other industry at one terminus.  The other terminus is a small town with a larger station, marshalling yard, engine facilities, and coal industry. There is a branch line, over a waterfall, into the bush for logs, and a branch siding leading to the real world interchange. My layout operates on Digitrac DCC. and my three engines have onboard sound.

John Cantwell is located in Kitchener, Ontario.

He Describes his On30 model of Kaslo & Slocan:
Quote
On30 Kaslo & Slocan Railway

Kaslo and Slocan Railway is set in the Kootenay region of British Columbia
an area rich in Zinc, Silver and Lead. The time period is 1940's although
the K & S was purchased by CP in 1910. The layout is 15x 16 feet and there
is a 14 feet extension to Cody. All trackwork is handlaid code 83 rail with
# 5 tunouts.Bench work is L- girder with plywood and homasote roadbed. This
is a busy layout with 62 pieces of rolling stock and lots of power. I have a
car card system and there are 14 trains for a operating session. Scenery is
about 40 % complete. There are many scratch built buildings and many more to
come. The layout is DCC ( Digitrax)
The K & S represents Kaslo,Whitewater,Sandon,Cody and Payne Mine. I have a
continious top loop and when a train starts out from Kaslo it starts
climbing to Whitewater and then must climb about a 4% grade to continue to
Sandon. There is a scratch built turntable in Kaslo and Sandon. I have two
lift out bridges to ease the entrance into the layout.

Dave Manary is located in Winona/Stoney Creek, Ontario:

On30 - Niagara Southern Scenic Railroad for viewing.  It is a freelanced Narrow Gauge Railroad that is fictionally  located in the Niagara Peninsula, and is set around the 1940's.  niagarasouthernrailroad.ca

On30 The Niagara Southern Scenic Railroad is a freelanced Narrow Gauge Railroad that is fictionally located in the Niagara Peninsula, and is set around the 1940's.

The main line is built on spline roadbed while the yard area is on 3/4" plywood. Track is hand laid code 83 rail and the turnouts are built using Fast Tracks jigs.

The Railroad is controlled by an NCE Wireless DCC System using a separate booster for the yard.

Locomotives are all MMI Diecast and Brass from Precision Scale and equipped with Tsunami Sound.

Most of the rolling stock is ON3, from San Juan and Grandt Line mounted on ON30 trucks.

Buildings are a combination of craftsman kits and scratch built.

Scenery and trackwork are 99.9% complete and I have a car forwarding system that demands a minimum of three operators.

My Niagara Southern Railroad was recently featured on the cover of Canadian Railway Modeller."

Hi Gang,

Here are the locations of the Home Layout Tours.

As you can see, they're spread out, but try to visit one or two of them on Sunday April 18, 2010 between Noon and 6pm.

There will be handouts available at the show with descriptions and directions to the Home Layouts.

There is also a special Google Map URL available...

Last, but not least, are two layouts in the far eastern reaches of Peterborough.

Ron Scott has a S-Scale shortline operation.

Dave Mehew is opening his On30 Cold Creek Railway to visitors.

Hello Everyone:
I'll be opening my On30 Cold Creek Railway for the tour this Sunday from noon to 5 pm. I'm located in Peterborough with easy access from the 115 highway. I'll bring copies of directions to my home, as well as to Ron Scott's home, to the show on Saturday.  We are only about a 4 minute drive apart.

Both layouts are completely scenicked. The Cold Creek is about 28 X 12 feet with continuous run as well as a point to point section. It is set in the 1950 - 1960 era and represents a short line narrow gauge operation. I run both steam and gas electric and a lot of my stuff has been scratch built. It is DCC equipped with Digitrax. One steamer is equipped with sound by Soundtrax.

Ron's layout is S standard. Unfortunately space limitations prevent him from setting up his Sn3 T.TOCS LOGGING Railway at home. It will be on display this Saturday at the show. His home layout is a 'worth see' pike, very well done.

We have tried to make this a worth while trip for folk to come 'east' therefore we felt one more pike should be open to visit even though it is standard gauge.

We hope some of you can make it and fully realize the tour covers a large area.

Dave & Ron.
